The Best Grunge Albums
Posted by: billyK 04/01/2009 @ 23:14
This showcases some of the best grunge albums released when the genre was at it's peak.
It was supposed to be the choice of generation X, with long haired band members playing all sorts of metal influenced music, from Neil Young to Black Sabbath and the Pixies.
Paw - 'Death to Traitors'
With tracks like 'No such luck' and 'Sweet sally brown', this album is just so good. Paw had a definite country feel to their music which might've put off a lot of British listeners, but they also had monster riffs and squealing guitar solos. The singer was very individual for the time with a heart felt voice and brilliant lyrics. The band's first album 'Dragline' was a small success over here due to the single 'Jessie', and i had to buy it for that. The album Dragline was good and after continued listens …

The 20 Best artists ever according to me
Posted by: billyK 14/10/2006 @ 22:20
Ok you may not agree with me here but noone ever agrees on things like this anyway!
The top 20 best artists of all time according to Billy K. I was gonna choose the best album to get by each one but instead maybe just get a 'best of' as it's too difficult to choose. Anyway here it is:
1.The Wildhearts
Possibly the best punk/metal band ever. Mixing the catchiest melodies with the most piledriving riffs known to man. "Earth vs" is a faultless album which is truly all killer, and no filler.
2.Faith No More
Weird band from San Francisco with a singer who loved to piss in his own shoes and drink the contents. They mixed metal, rap, and funk together to make some of the best albums of the nineties.
3.Dinosaur Jr
The band that defined grunge! Punky grungy rock with insane guitar solos, from J. Mascis.
4. …

Best albums and gigs of 2005
Posted by: billyK 27/12/2005 @ 23:34
I like lists! This year's been weird, nothing all that amazing has really come out, I think I only bought 3 albums that were actually released in 2005. Here's my top five CDs I bought last year:
1. Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land
Awesome band from Scotland. Saw them at Reading this year and I can't believe a 3 piece can make such intricate and imaginative sounds, and pull it off live!
2. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Really great album!! I think I saw them supporting Span a year or 2 ago, and loved them then. Good songs and a frantic sound, you can see they like the Cure and there's nothing wrong with that.
3. Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Wasn't too sure about this at first but it's really grown on me. Dave Grohl on drums gives it a pounding live sound …
